Project overview

Plumbing work had required a large section of the first-floor bathroom ceiling to be opened so the drain piping above could be repaired. Before closing the ceiling again, the homeowner also needed a bathroom exhaust fan with a light installed in that same area. This made it important to complete the fan housing and duct connection before the drywall repair was closed.

The problem

Plumbing access left a large opening in the bathroom ceiling, and the exhaust fan housing and duct connection had to be completed before the ceiling could be closed and refinished.

Work performed

The exhaust fan and light housing was installed in the open ceiling cavity and connected to the existing ventilation duct. Once the mechanical portion was in place, new drywall was cut and installed to close the damaged ceiling area. The seams and fasteners were finished with joint compound, the surface was prepared for paint, and the repaired ceiling was painted to blend with the surrounding area. After the ceiling finish was complete, the visible exhaust fan and light assembly was installed and tested in the finished opening.

The result

The bathroom ceiling was restored after the plumbing access work, and the new exhaust fan with integrated light was installed as part of the finished ceiling rather than looking like a separate repair.
